The MSXL was formed from an idea shared by associates and friends Chris Geiger and Darin Tapp. Our region was hungry for a more advanced level of tournament paintball. We are affiliates of the SEPS series which utilizes the old 5-man formats with modified rules. This was a fun league but limited players from moving up into the more advanced format of X-Ball now Race to Format. We saw a giant void in the middle of the Nation that needed to be filled.
Through conversation with Chris Rhael of APPA we found out about a meeting at the Extravaganza of league owners and heads of industry. This meeting was literally a life changing experience. When we realized how committed the powers to be were to the ideas shared that day we were all in. We hashed out an agreement on a handshake to commit our resources to build a top notch regional league and cross promote long term with PSP to build tournament paintball to levels never achieved in this region.
We came up with the Race to World Cup slogan and cross promotion idea shared the idea with Dave Youngblood of DYE & PSP. With Dave's blessing we set out to build the MSXL. Once we received confirmation of our Official Affiliate League status from Lane Wright COO of PSP we set out to recruit venues/host for our new League.
Through either being a player our having children playing we had some ideas of how to take PSP formats make them more affordable and fun. To our knowledge we have the most affordable events of any major Regional Series in the Nation. We have emplemented the Volunteer Ref for your Entry Program, BYOP or amazingly affordable event paint thanks to Valken. We also hired an amazing Ultimate Ref in Andrea Wallace with several years PSP experience who oversees all reffing duties, and constantly recruit and train head field Refs for consistancy.
Our Entrys are very cheap so we give Entry to future events as prizes along with affordable but Super Cool MSXL T-Shirts to Event Champions.
MSXL 2009 was quite impressive, the Host and players all bought in on the idea. The host bought in and converted 7-man & 5-man fields to accommodate the Race formats. Some of the facilities required major modifications. We all made huge sacrifices to make this dream a reality. We started slow with only D-4 Race to 4 for our 1st season to work the kinks out. Our League saw 477 Unique participants 1st year, Our MSXL Host sponsored teams were directly responsible for 7 PSP entries 2009. Flip Syde won the League Championship with Livewire a close Runner-Up. These teams went on to Cup through the Race to World Cup series prize pkgs. along with 2 other throw together teams consisting of MSXL players.
MSXL 2009 produced The D-4 Race to 4 World Champions FlipSyde with Livewire finishing a close and hard fought 4th.
For 2010 the MSXL needed some additional funding to take the next step. Darin Tapp Owner/President of Atlantis Swim and Sport Complex put his facility on the market and sold the business which had been in his family for 25yrs. With the additional funds secured we set out to acquire the services of the top facilities in the region. We already had PB Asylum Louisville, AXPS Owensboro KY and Proving Grounds Indy. We added Paintball Plex/Trade My Gun in Ft. Wayne, CHF Cedar Hill Farm in close proximity to Memphis and The Break, St. Louis metro area. We also added D-2&3 to our program which should more than double the number of participants not only for the MSXL but also for teams sent to PSP events from MSXL Host/Sponsors.
